Find the Pangram number on your handout.
- Type it as many times as you can.
- Strike the enter key at the end of each line.
Then, count the number of characters you typed (including spaces, punctuation, and enter keys).
-
Then divide this count by 5.
- - This is your gross number of words per minute (gWPM).
Then, count the number of errors you made.
- Subtract the number of errors from your words per minute.
This resulting score is your net words per minute (nWPM).
If you typed 60 characters:
1. Divide 60 by 5 to get gWPM (answer = 12 gWPM)
2. Count the number of errors (let's say 1 error)
3. Then subtract errors from gWPM (12 minus 1) = 11 nWPM
The net words per minute for this example would be = 11
12 gWPM - 1 error = 11 nWPM
